DID YOU KNOW?
Psalm 103:11–12 declares:
“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
The phrase “as far as the east is from the west” refers to what can be called the east–west continuum. At first glance, you might ask, “How is that different from north and south?”
Because the earth is a sphere that rotates on an east–west axis, it has a North Pole and a South Pole, but it has no east pole and no west pole.
North eventually ends at the North Pole.
South eventually ends at the South Pole.
The distance between them is finite.
If the psalmist had said God removed our sins as far as the north is from the south, then forgiveness would have had a measurable limit, only a few thousand miles.
But east and west never meet.
They have no ending point.
They stretch on forever.
In fact, the Hebrew word for east—kedem—also carries the meaning of everlasting or eternal.
So how far does God remove our sins from us in **Jesus the Messiah?
An infinite distance.
An eternity away.
Even if you had all of eternity, you could never find them again.
That is the depth of God’s love.
That is the completeness of His forgiveness.
As Scripture says:
“So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
TODAY:
Pause and take in the love of God, the love that removed your sins forever.
Live free. Live forgiven.
And live in the confidence of grace that reaches as far as the east is from the west.
