DID YOU KNOW?
If you read almost any English translation of Isaiah 53:9, it speaks of the death of the Messiah. But in the original Hebrew, the word is not singular. It is plural.
It does not say death, it says DEATHS.
The death of Jesus the Messiah is so vast, so intense, so all-encompassing, that the singular word death cannot contain it. What took place on the cross goes beyond what language can fully express or the human mind can completely grasp.
Jesus did not die one death. He died many deaths.
He was the one life who died the death of all.
Every death—
every judgment,
every condemnation,
every ending brought on by sin, is contained within that single plural word: deaths.
In His deaths:
- your old life was put to death
- the judgment against sin was exhausted
- the power of guilt and shame was broken
It stands as a witness that in Jesus, what was old is finished.
Completely.
Decisively.
Forever.
TODAY:
Give the old life a eulogy.
Lay it to rest.
Be finished with guilt.
Be finished with shame.
For whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
