Every Sabbath (Shabbat), from ancient times to the present day, the Jewish people gather in synagogues around the world. They open the sacred scrolls and read the ancient Scriptures. Each Sabbath has a specific, appointed portion of Scripture, called the Parasha, a reading schedule established long ago and faithfully followed week after week, generation after generation.
This means that no Scripture reading is random.
When Jesus stood in the synagogue of Nazareth as a guest reader, He did not arbitrarily choose a scroll or passage. The attendant handed Him the scroll assigned for that day, the Parasha, a passage being read in synagogues all over the world at the very same time.
The scroll was from Isaiah, chapter 61. And Jesus read these words:
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the LORD has anointed Me
To preach good news to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
When He finished reading, He closed the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. Every eye in the synagogue was fixed on Him.
Then He declared:
“Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21)
Think of it.
On that very Sabbath—on that exact day—synagogues across the world were reading Isaiah’s prophecy about the Messiah. And the One who fulfilled the prophecy stood up, read it aloud, and announced its fulfillment in Himself.
Only God could orchestrate that.
There were no coincidences.
No chance moments.
No accidental timing.
Only divine orchestration.
TODAY:
Rest in this truth: In God, there are NO coincidences, only perfectly timed purposes, woven together by the Author of history Himself.
