DID YOU KNOW?
The lambs that were sacrificed in the Temple were raised in close proximity to Jerusalem, in a small town called Bethlehem. This is the very place where Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, was born.
The Bible records in Luke 2 that “shepherds were watching their flocks by night.” These were not just any shepherds, nor just any flocks. These shepherds were tending lambs destined to be offered as sacrifices in the Temple of Jerusalem, lambs raised specifically for the atonement of the people.
That is why the first witnesses of Jesus’ birth were the shepherds.
When a sacrificial lamb was born, the shepherds were present to attend its birth. And not just any shepherds—the shepherds of Bethlehem, appointed to watch over the lambs set apart for sacrifice.
So the Lamb of God was born among sacrificial lambs for one clear reason:
He, too, was born to be offered in Jerusalem.
This was no coincidence.
The plan of God was established from the beginning.
Centuries earlier, the prophet Micah foretold the very place of His birth. From His first breath, Jesus’ life was divinely orchestrated to reflect God’s redeeming love for humanity.
His entire life was a living sacrifice.
Every moment was a gift given.
The incarnation itself was the embodiment of true love.
